The ladybug is the official state bug of Delaware thanks to a petition made by the 2nd grade students of Lulu M. Ross Elementary School in Milford, Delaware. Also called lady beetle, ladybird beetle, or ladyfly, ladybugs help gardeners and farmers by eating tiny insect pests that damage plants. Over 450 species of ladybug exist in the United States alone.
